You're missing a business card on steroids

Go take 3 seconds to google “business card on steroids”, what did you find?

.

.

.

You'll find many people talking about how you should write a book.

Because when you have a low-priced product packed with value, you can grow your brand quickly.

You can go on podcasts to talk about the ideas in your book.

When you meet someone new, you can gift this person your book.

That's why it is a "business card on steroids".

(This is also why so many people published a book in the last few years)

I self-published a book "Find Joy in Chaos" in 2022, so I can tell you this is true. I became the "Twitter guy". Many students in my premium program started with my $9.99 Kindle book.

I'm not here to bore you with all the proud things bla bla bla, I'm actually here to tell you my regrets.

I regret choosing Twitter to be the focus of my book. I liked helping people crack this platform, but now in 2024 I don't want to talk about Twitter/X anymore. I spent a total of 10 months working on this book and now I am not proud to mention it to people? What?!

Yup, that's exactly right.

I'm also a bit stuck because Amazon doesn't allow you to change a book title once it is published, so I cannot repackage the book.

So this is why for most people, a signature free email course is the right business card on steroids, not a published book.

Why's that?

Here are the reasons:

  1. It is much easier to create. You only need 4 weeks to build an email course but you'd need at least 6 months to write a book
  2. You can update it anytime. Easy!
  3. You get people's emails so that you can do email marketing to share more and present offers
  4. When your focus changes, you can easily take it down

If you have a well-established business and personal brand, sure, you can go the "write a book" route.

For most creators, a free email course can make 10x more impact on your business's bottom line.

If you haven't had an email course that can represent you like a business card on steroids, you have to give it a try. It is addicting to see new email subscribers come in on their own every day.

I'll be running a live cohort soon to help you build your "business card on steroids" to reach new audiences. You'll get fill-in-the-blank templates and feedback throughout.

P.S. A special bonus is ending tomorrow. Don't miss out.

P.S. In the last few days, many asked me "What's different about this cohort?" so I recorded a Loom video to share:

Do you want people to share your work? I guess so! Who doesn't like word-of-mouth, right? But I think most of us have this fantasy: we can sit and wait for that to happen. If I learned one thing from my last 12 years of working, I'd say success is not passive. Success can't be passive! You want to go out and get it. I remember when I was running Build in Public Mastery, I had to constantly talk about the program to keep the momentum high. That drew interest from prospective students. Each...

In 2019-2020, I spent 1 million USD. I rarely talked about my past life before running Small School because it was a very different world. I wasn't sure how to connect the dots for you. I was building a SaaS startup. I had angel investors (so yup, I didn't spend my own money). I had a team of talented people. I was working 14-15 hours a day trying to make it work. Obviously it didn't work out. Otherwise I wouldn't be on this new path and get this amazing chance to connect with you (ha!), but...

It was back in January 2021. I remember this very clearly because my elder daughter, Avery, was born that month. I had been writing online for 2 months at that point, so I was getting a hang of it. My audience was growing slowly. I met so many new buddies who also started their journey at the same time. Let's just say the space was pretty hot. One day I was chatting with a friend who was starting out just like me. She told me "Kevon, my first paid product is going to be a <Creator Starter...
